Will You Adopt New Phone Technology?
Finding it hard to get the business team on board with new technology? Technology advances at a startling rate today, which can sometimes make it difficult for businesses to keep up. Small business leaders have the added task of making sure that all employees are able to keep up with changes ranging from the smallest program update to the implementation of new disruptive technology. Writing a recent article appearing on Business 2 Community, web development professional Rachel Kim offered a few solutions to help upper-level execs effectively lead their team through various tech trends.
“Staying on top of tech trends can be a chore, especially for employees that tend to be less technologically savvy,” Kim wrote. “However, an indifference towards technology can lend to a range of disadvantages, such as loss of productivity, poor communications and even the risk of falling behind the competition. So if you need to encourage your employees to stay on top of technology, what’s the best way to do so?”
Offer Incentives to Get the Business Team On Board with New Technology
According to Kim, incentivizing new technology adoption is an excellent way to motivate employees. One example of incentivizing would be to link a salesperson’s commission to his or her use of a new customer relationship management solution, essentially steering that employee to adapt to the new way of doing something in order to get that paycheck. Kim also suggested making public announcements that recognize the staff members who have made successfully used new technology. This will provide an example to the rest of the team. Kim also noted that providing support and thorough training for new tech is an important part of the process.
“While some adopt new technology relatively quickly, the learning curve may be higher for many employees,” Kim wrote. “In this case, make sure that you provide your staff with the appropriate support and training. For example, creating user-friendly policies or procedures can be a great way to ease the pains of transition. Another source off support is other employees: give your staff the ability to collaborate and work with each other on integrating technology into the workplace. With enough support, your entire staff can smoothly adjust to recent developments and trends.”
Adopting new workplace virtual office phone technology
A virtual PBX system from AccessDirect can play a critical role in this new technology adoption process. On one hand, selecting a virtual phone system is in itself implementing a new technology. Fortunately, AccessDirect makes this easy on businesses by providing hosted solutions that can add business lines to existing mobile devices. This means that team members can continue using the technology they are most familiar with, while at the same time benefiting from advanced VoIP technology.
In a recent article for NRGadget, contributor Nathan Rossiter shared a few considerations for small businesses to successfully deploy VoIP. With a hosted solution, installation is essentially eliminated; however, businesses will need to take the appropriate steps to make sure that the network being used is able to handle the additional traffic. In order to do this, SMBs should work with network providers to do a performance test and specify that voice traffic is given priority over other traffic. This way, no business will be lost as a result of dropped or unclear calls.
